Ten minutes with singer and songwriter Joe Dolman
It’s been a roller coaster ride in recent times for Leamington Spa born singer and songwriter, Joe Dolman. From playing alongside former Enemy frontman, Tom Clarke to performing at the Radio One Biggest Weekend, Joe has been wowing audiences across the UK and is now set to progress even further. We took time out with Joe and got to know him a little better.
For what now must be a very small amount of people that aren’t familiar with your work tell us a bit about you and your music.
I’m a 21 year old songwriter and musician from Leamington Spa in the Midlands. I mainly play acoustic guitar but occasionally play electric guitar or piano at my gigs. I’d say the genre my music lives in is Acoustic driven Pop/Rock. For fans of artists like John Mayer, James Bay, George Ezra and James Morrison.
It sounds like its been a very busy but exciting time for you recently. Touring with Tom Clarke, playing at BBC’s Biggest Weekend, Playing my personal favourite music event Dot To Dot Festival and now about to play a sold out show in your hometown of Leamington Spa. How’s the last month or so been for you?
It’s been very hectic but I’m having the time of my life. I feel very lucky to get so many amazing opportunities to perform to the most amazing crowds, I’m not taking any of it for granted!
How do you managed to stay focused in such a whirlwind of a schedule?
I just enjoy each day as it comes, it can be difficult to not get bogged down by the hard work and sometimes things don’t always go exactly or as well as you planned, but staying grateful and keeping perspective on the bigger picture is how I stop myself from losing focus of what I’m doing and why.
How special has it felt to sell out such a big hometown headline show? And also how special will it be performing at the beautiful All Saints Church?
It feels amazing. I cannot put into words how humbled I am by the love I receive from Leamington, every time I play a gig here I sort of feel like the proud son of the whole crowd ha! I started playing gigs in Leamington 6 years ago and I was over the moon when 4 people came to see me back then in a pub open mic. I cannot wait to play this show in arguably the most beautiful venue I’ve ever played next week! It’s going to be a special one indeed.
Tell us a bit about what we can expect from this show then? From what we’ve herd it sounds like people can expect quite a spectacle
I’ll be bringing my incredible backing band, which includes drums, bass, guitar, piano, cello, violin and lots of backing vocals. Plus, there’s going to be some very impressive lights to accompany us while we play!
And Finally whats next on the horizon for yourself for the rest of 2018? Is there new music in the pipeline?
I’m going to be working hard on new music, there’s a bunch of festivals for me this summer which I can’t wait for including some trips abroad to France, Switzerland and Spain and hopefully we’ll get some new songs released too when the time is right.
